Sustaining the Frontline: Medical Residency Support

Objectives

Global MedReach (GMR) established this vital framework to stabilize Gaza’s specialized medical workforce during a period of unprecedented strain. The program focuses on the retention and professional empowerment of 112 Medical Board Residents across essential specialties.

Conflict Reconstructive Surgery Capacity Building Program

Overview and Mission

Launched by Global MedReach, this strategic initiative addresses the critical gaps in the Gaza Strip’s healthcare system, particularly within the field of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. The program aims to strengthen local surgical services through a structured, supervised, and sustainable framework that enhances clinical competence and improves the quality of care for patients with war-related injuries, complex wounds, and burns.

Program Structure

The program is implemented over a 36-month period across three interlinked phases:

  • Phase I: Capacity Building and Service Stabilization.
  • Phase II: Advanced Practice and Service Development.
  • Phase III: Consolidation and Future Pathway Readiness.

Our Methodology

We prioritize practical skill development through a hybrid training model. This includes supervised clinical practice in local health facilities, longitudinal mentorship, and structured online educational seminars led by international experts. By embedding training within the local health system, we ensure long-term sustainability and foster institutional resilience.

Mentorship and Collaboration
Mentorship Focus

Building lasting professional relationships between international experts and local surgeons.

Sustaining the Frontline: Medical Residency Support & Specialist Capacity Building

Overview and Mission

Global MedReach (GMR) established this vital framework to stabilize Gaza’s specialized medical workforce during a period of unprecedented strain. The program focuses on the retention and professional empowerment of 112 Medical Board Residents across essential specialties, including General Surgery, Anesthesia, ICU, and Emergency Medicine. By providing critical support, the project prevents "brain drain" and ensures that major medical complexes—Al-Shifa, Al-Aqsa, and Nasser—remain operational.

Our Methodology

The initiative operates under a Blended Training framework, integrating frontline clinical service with remote mentorship and academic oversight from international GMR faculty. In strategic partnership with the Palestinian Medical Council and local health authorities, we ensure that all clinical work is formally accredited toward Board certification, allowing young specialists to progress professionally despite the ongoing crisis.

Impact and Objectives

  • Workforce Stabilization: Providing fixed monthly stipends to 112 residents to ensure they remain at their clinical posts.
  • Direct Patient Care: Facilitating an estimated 40,000 patient consultations and 4,000 specialized clinical procedures during the initial six-month phase.
  • Long-term Resilience: Protecting the next generation of Palestinian specialists from professional stagnation, securing the future of the healthcare system.
